Register for the Arts Infopoint UK online Coffee Mornings here.

Our next coffee morning is:

9:30am BST | 14 November 2023

Topic: Reflecting on international touring and exhibitions.

Our next guest contributors are:

Megan Maw (Production Coordinator at Aakash Odedra Company)

David Drake (Co-Director of Caerbladon Gallery)

Have you been touring or exhibiting internationally this year? This session is a chance to check in and reflect on how international touring and exhibiting is going, and share experiences and tips from the challenges you have faced.  You may have some questions about international work you are planning and would like to ask peers. We will hear from experiences in the visual and performing arts from our contributors.

Megan has worked with Aakash Odedra Company within various production roles since 2022. Now managing the department, she produces national and international tours of work such as Samsara, Little Murmur, and new main stage production Mehek. As a close-knit team, Megan works alongside the participation and training teams, and is currently working on the evaluation and reporting for the Nationally Significant Project Grant awarded project Mehek Live; Mehek Live is a community programme of over 400 elders in Belgrave, Leicester, offering them access to dance and music and taking inspiration from their lived experiences of love and loss to be incorporated into Mehek, ahead of its 2024 premiere. Working as a freelance creative professional, Megan has delivered various shows and events across programmes in Leicestershire and Yorkshire, where she is originally from. Megan has a BA in Arts and Festivals Management from De Montfort University, which is where her connection to Leicester’s arts and cultural network began. Megan will share with us her experiences, reflections and tips of the administration of supporting the tours to get on the road. The company recently toured UK, France, Italy, India, America, Canada, China and Ireland.

David Drake has over 35 years of international experience in the visual arts and media sector at the helm of organisations and as an independent curator. As the former Director of Ffotogallery, the national agency for photography and lens-based media in Cardiff, he led on the Creative Europe project European Prospects as well as Diffusion Festival of Photography in Cardiff.  He is now the co-director Caerbladon Gallery in Malmesbury, which in partnership with and WOMAD recently featured 3 ‘Global Carnival’ exhibitions including the work of Paris-based American photographer Jason Gardner.  As an independent curator David has recently been working in Spain and Oman.  David will join us and speak about his experience of exhibiting internationally, including the additional challenges facing organisations and artists regarding costs, additional paperwork and admin.

Come and listen to the experiences of others as well as share your own experience as well as any tips you might have picked up along the way.

Open to all artforms, our monthly online coffee mornings can connect you with other UK-based artists and creative organisations to share cross border working challenges, plans and ambitions. Each session will feature contributions from partners and networks we work with to share current insights and key updates around international mobility.

The coffee mornings usually take place online every first Tuesday of the month between 09:30-10:30am GMT.

Session agendas are shaped by what you and our speaker bring to the day: whether it be administration for exhibitions or productions; supporting artists to come across borders with new immigration rules; or simply joining to connect with others facing similar challenges. Our aim is to create an informal, supportive network of internationally focused peers.

Automatic closed captioning is available during the sessions.
