Our next coffee morning is:
9:30am UK Time | Tuesday 21 October 2025
Topic: What is the Schengen area? Explaining the rules for visiting non-EU artists and cultural professionals.
Our next guest contributor is:
Anita Debaere, Director of PEARLE* Live Performance Europe, Beatriz Nobre, European Affairs Adviser at PEARLE* Live Performance Europe & Sebastian Hoffmann from touring artists.
Do you have upcoming plans to work or travel in the EU? Are you aware of the Schengen area rules, what it covers and what artists and cultural professionals visiting and working in the Schengen area need to plan for?
The aim of this session is to explain what the Schengen area is and demystify the rules that impacts visiting artists. The overview will help non-EU citizens plan a visit to the Schengen area. For example, what is the 90/180-day rule, and how do you comply? Or which rules sit at the Schengen level and what do you need to then plan at a national level of the country/ies you are visiting?
This is an opportunity to ask any questions about the Schengen area rules, including the new Entry Exit System (EES) being phased in on 12 October 2025, or the ETIAS system implementation planned for 2026.
We will be joined by Anita Debaere (Director) and Beatriz Nobre
(European Affairs Adviser) of PEARLE* Live Performance Europe, as well as Sebastian Hoffmann from touring artists who will provide an explainer of the Schengen area rules and answer any questions you may have.
In September 2024 we hosted a specific coffee morning to explain the new EES and ETIAS EU border arrangements, which was recorded and a Q&A published, that you might find useful to watch before attending this session. You can find that recording here.
PEARLE also has a range of cookbooks aimed specifically at cultural professionals working across borders including The Ultimate Cookbook for third country artists travelling to the Schengen area and The Ultimate Cookbook for Cultural Managers: third country national artists working in the EU.
This session will be recorded, and resources will be shared on our website. We strongly encourage you to include any questions you might have as part of the sign-up process or by sending them directly to us on email (infopoint@wai.org.uk) so that we can tailor the session as much as possible to your needs.

Open to all artforms, our monthly online coffee mornings can connect you with other UK-based artists and creative organisations to share cross border working challenges, plans and ambitions. Each session will feature contributions from partners and networks we work with to share current insights and key updates around international mobility.
The coffee mornings usually take place online every first Tuesday of the month between 09:30-10:30am GMT.
Session agendas are shaped by what you and our speaker bring to the day: whether it be administration for exhibitions or productions; supporting artists to come across borders with new immigration rules; or simply joining to connect with others facing similar challenges. Our aim is to create an informal, supportive network of internationally focused peers.
Automatic closed captioning is available during the sessions.
