Topic:
Northern European Mobility Opportunity (NEMO) explainer
Our next guest contributor is:
Søren Merrild Staun, interim director of the Nordic Culture Fund
The Nordic Culture Fund, in partnership with the arts funding agencies of Ireland, England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales recently announced the first Northern European Mobility Opportunity (NEMO) mobility fund. The funding call will open in August 2025 and support artistic exchange and collaboration for practitioners across the Nordic region, the UK and Ireland.
We’re delighted that Søren Merrild Staun from Nordic Culture Fund will join us to provide an overview of the fund, with an opportunity to ask questions.
The Nordic countries, the UK and Ireland constitute a shared international space with fertile ground for creative collaborations. Working across the region has become more difficult with increased costs and new barriers to mobility restricting international collaboration. The focus of the Call is on individual arts practitioners in the initial years of their careers, acknowledging that this group has a particular need for opportunity and investment in the current climate.
The programme aims to foster international collaboration, develop artistic networks across the region and encourage more arts practitioners to work confidently with international partners. The need for unity, cooperation and mutual understanding between neighbours is now more urgent than at any time this century.
The Nordic Culture Fund will administer the open call. Applications can be made by artists in the UK and Ireland to engage with counterparts in the Nordic Countries (Denmark, Faroe Islands, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and the Åland Islands), and vice versa, with awards of up to EUR9,000 each from a total budget of approximately EUR 300,000.
More details will be launched in June.
If you are an artist from one of the eligible countries that is interested to find out more about this fund please join us as an opportunity to discuss the fund and ask questions.

Open to all artforms, our monthly online coffee mornings can connect you with other UK-based artists and creative organisations to share cross border working challenges, plans and ambitions. Each session will feature contributions from partners and networks we work with to share current insights and key updates around international mobility.
The coffee mornings usually take place online every first Tuesday of the month between 09:30-10:30am GMT.
Session agendas are shaped by what you and our speaker bring to the day: whether it be administration for exhibitions or productions; supporting artists to come across borders with new immigration rules; or simply joining to connect with others facing similar challenges. Our aim is to create an informal, supportive network of internationally focused peers.
Automatic closed captioning is available during the sessions.
